CRICKET – JD’s Avengers, MJ Yodhas, and SuperGiants 2.0 were all victorious in the latest match day of season six in the Abraj Premier League (APL6).
Avengers defeated Abraj Super Kings by 14 runs in a competitive, high-energy contest. Avengers set a strong total after being sent in to bat with 160/5 in 20 overs, powered by a series of steady contributions.
Mahesh Tambare anchored the innings with a composed 30 (27), while captain Hozefa Petiwala chipped in with 22 (18).
Jignesh Dhanesha added a brisk 20 (13), and the team benefited from multiple rotating retired batsmen, who kept the scoring momentum going. The innings was also boosted by 24 extras, including 19 wides.
For Super Kings, wickets were shared among Ankesh Mandowara, Ashwani Bhatia, and skipper Sushant Khar, each making timely breakthroughs.
Super Kings were then restricted to 146 all out in 19.1 overs, despite a spectacular knock from Tarun Parihar, who smashed 55 off 29 balls, including five boundaries and three sixes.
His late assault kept Super Kings’ hopes alive, but consistent breakthroughs from Avengers’ bowlers ensured control throughout the innings.
Kumar (2/12) and Tambare (2/23) led the attack superbly, supported by strikes from Jignesh Dhanesha, Safiyaaldin Sadiq, Hozefa Petiwala, and Arun C R.
Super Kings struggled to build partnerships, losing regular wickets after promising starts from Varun Sood (25 off 17) and a cameo from Ashwani Bhatia (8 off 3).
Three run-outs further derailed the chase and shifted momentum firmly toward Avengers.
Meanwhile, SuperGiants 2.0 clinched a five-wicket victory over Abraj White Tigers.
Opting to bat first, White Tigers found themselves in early trouble but managed to post 139/8 in 20 overs, thanks to a standout innings from Shrawan Soni, who smashed 43 off 26 balls with four boundaries and a six.
Useful contributions from Sachin Kadam (14 off 14) and Robin Jain (14 off eight) helped stabilise the innings, while 18 wides from the opposition boosted their total.
However, frequent wickets prevented any major partnership.
SuperGiants’ bowling remained disciplined, with Ankit Bhutda leading the attack superbly with 3/21, supported by Ali Asgar, Sanito Dsilva, Stany Fernandes, and Vivek Mandowara, all of whom claimed a wicket each.
SuperGiants paced their chase intelligently, finishing at 140/5 in 18.5 overs.
Opener Mishal Soni anchored the innings with a fluent 27 off 19, while Shrawan Soni, Anuj Somani (13), and Ali Asgar (15 retired) all contributed to building a steady chase.
The decisive burst came from Bhutda, who followed up his bowling heroics with a brisk 16 off nine balls, pushing his side ahead at a crucial stage.
SuperGiants’ depth and rotating retired batsmen ensured they remained in control, while extras once again proved costly for White Tigers, with 14 gifted runs aiding the chase.
MJ Yodhas edged Abraj Rocking Royals by three wickets in a low-scoring affair.
Rocking Royals struggled from the outset, folding for just 64 runs in 14.2 overs.
Captain Sagar Dholaria top scored with a fighting 18 off 17, while Vignesh US (nine) and Vinit Maroo (nine) were the only others who showed brief resistance.
Frequent wickets, including two run-outs and a hit-wicket dismissal, prevented any partnership from stabilizing the innings. Yodhas’ bowlers were excellent throughout, maintaining tight lines and sharing wickets effectively.
Pankaj Kherajani (2/7), Collin Dominic Dsilva (2/9), Ratnesh Singh (1/7), Sagar K (1/4) and Deepak Bhakuni (1/17), led the dismantling of Rocking Royals’ batting order, while skipper Ajay P chipped in with a crucial wicket and conceded only five runs from his two overs.
Yodhas found themselves under unexpected pressure as Rocking Royals fought back with early breakthroughs.
At one stage, Yodhas were 57/7, with wickets falling regularly and the required runs still not secure.
But Singh played the match-defining innings – an aggressive 24 off 15 balls, featuring three boundaries and a six – that turned the momentum back in Yodhas’ favour.
A calm unbeaten knock from Prem Devassy (eight) ensured that the chase stayed on track as Yodhas reached 70/7 in 16.2 overs to seal the win.
