The seventh annual forum of the Bahrain Centre for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (Derasat) kicked off yesterday under the theme ‘The Arab Research Centres Consortium for Sustainability and Development’.
The event is held in partnership with the Arab League general secretariat.
Transportation and Telecommunications Minister and Derasat board of trustees chairman Dr Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa affirmed that the forum represents a strategic platform for establishing an Arab intellectual system capable of shaping a roadmap for the present and future.
“This comes through integration between thought and decision-making to produce innovative and realistic visions that serve development agendas by exchanging knowledge, building capacities and launching initiatives that make a real difference in the life of Arab citizens,” he said.
“This is the essence of partnership with the Arab League, especially in light of the difficult and complex challenges facing the region,” he added.
Arab League secretary general Ahmed Aboul Gheit praised Bahrain for hosting the forum, commending the sound vision of its wise leadership and the kingdom’s efforts in serving Arab issues. He described its role as a model to emulate in safeguarding Arab unity and interests.
A book documenting partnership between Bahrain and the Arab League was launched at the forum. It is considered as one of the most prominent research publications of this year highlighting the trajectory of relations between both sides since 1971. It also sheds light on the kingdom’s positions and initiatives within the framework of joint Arab action.
