ISLAMIC SOLIDARITY GAMES – Bahrain's Omar Ali narrowly missed out on a top 10 finish yesterday in the men’s duathlon at the sixth Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh.
Ali took 11th place overall amongst the 17 participating triathletes after completing the event in a total race time of one hour one minute and 10.4 seconds.
Ali opened his medal bid with a run of 16:05.1 before going on the bike for 35:35.1.
He wrapped up his campaign with a time of 8:16.1 in the concluding run leg to finish just under four minutes behind gold-medallist Mohamed Nemsi from Morocco, who triumphed in 57:24.7.
Nemsi completed the course 27.6 seconds ahead of silver-medallist Enes Kizilcik from Türkiye, while his fellow-Turk Gultigin Er won the bronze medal 31.9s from first place.
Meanwhile, Bahrain’s Hussain Mohamed Dadalla riding Verdi de Hus Z and Mayoof Abdulaziz Alromaihi riding his horse Kornets Darco BH competed yesterday in the two-round showjumping final.
Dadalla was ranked 13th amongst 22 competitors in the first round with a time of 82.02s and five penalties.
Alromaihi followed in 21st at 100.04s with 35 penalties.
Dadalla made it through to the second round, but retired from the event.
Elsewhere, in taekwondo, Bahrain’s Mohamed Alhooti lost his men’s under-74kg round-of-16 contest against Ali Khoshravesh from Iran 0-2.
Today’s programme for Bahrain in the sixth Islamic Solidarity Games will be headlined by the senior men’s handball national team taking on hosts Saudi in their second Group B fixture, scheduled for a 4pm start.
The Bahrainis eked out a narrow victory by a single goal against Kuwait in their opening game on Friday and will be aiming for a repeat success today.
Following today’s clash, the nationals face Iraq on Tuesday at 2pm in their concluding fixture of the preliminary round, which features Qatar, Iran, the UAE, and the Maldives in Group A.
At the end of this stage, the top two teams from each pool move on to the semi-finals, scheduled for Wednesday, while the bronze medal game will be held on Thursday and the gold medal match on Friday.
