KOWAT ALRAMI – Bahrain were crowned overall champions of the seventh Kowat Alrami Arab Championship, which was held at Khalifa Sports City Arena in Isa Town.
The power-throwing event featured 12 Arab teams, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE, Yemen, Iraq, Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine, Tunisia, Sudan, Syria, and hosts Bahrain.
The kingdom’s representatives clinched the teams’ title after collecting 23 medals – highlighted by 12 gold and including four silver and seven bronze medals.
Kuwait finished in second place with four gold, eight silver, and four bronze medals for a total of 16, while Palestine were third with four gold, two silver, and three bronze for nine medals in all.
On this occasion, General Sports Authority deputy chairman and Bahrain Combat Sports Council president Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa expressed his pride and honour in the national team’s achievement in securing the overall title of competition.
Shaikh Salman stressed that this achievement reflects the great development that combat sports are witnessing in the kingdom, thanks to the unlimited support given by the wise leadership to the sports sector, and thanks to the distinguished efforts made by Supreme Council for Youth and Sport first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa in supporting combat sports, which has contributed to strengthening its strong presence on the regional, continental, and international scenes.
Amongst Bahrain’s gold-medallists, Mujtaba Muhammad Ali won two gold in the light power and full power under-75kg weight classes, while Zayed Ali Al Mousa bagged two gold medals in the light power and body power 34.5kg weight division.
Mohammed Emad won gold in the body power 80kg weight category, Hussein Ali Hussein won gold in the body power under-95kg class, Hussein Ali Dawood won gold in the light power under-70kg category and in the full power division for the professional fighting belt.
Sayed Majeed Al Ali also struck gold in the light power open weight category, while Sayed Alawi Al Kamel won gold in the body power open weight division.
Amongst the juniors, Qasim Azhar excelled in the under-55kg category, winning gold in light power, while Ali Ahmed Hassan bagged light power gold in the under-50kg division.
