CRICKET – Bahrain Cricket Club (BCC) A and National Guards played out a sensational tie in their KHK League 2025 A+ division T20 encounter over the weekend.
In a match that ebbed and flowed dramatically, both teams finished with identical scores of 186, providing a fittingly dramatic conclusion to a contest that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the very last ball.
Opting to bat first, BCC A found themselves in early trouble at 32 for three, thanks to a fiery opening spell from National Guards’ bowlers.
Zohaib Anwar Muhammad (3/37) and Sarfraz Javed Muhammad (4/23) wreaked havoc with the new ball, leaving BCC A’s top order in disarray.
However, the innings was resurrected by a magnificent, counter-attacking partnership between Rana K Murtaza (55 off 40 balls) and the explosive Usama Pervaiz.
But just as BCC A were regaining control, Murtaza fell, but Pervaiz shifted gears to produce a match-defining knock.
Unleashing a blistering assault, he remained unbeaten on a spectacular 81 from just 46 deliveries – an innings punctuated by four boundaries and five towering sixes.
His heroics propelled BCC A to a formidable total of 186 for seven.
Sarfraz Javed Muhammad was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with an excellent four-wicket haul for just 23 runs.
In response, National Guards came out all guns blazing. Ali Raza Nabi Ahmad set the tone with a ferocious 38 off just 17 balls, tearing into the BCC A bowling attack.
Despite losing partners, Asif Javed Bashir Ahmad kept the chase alive with a powerful 49 off 29 balls.
The match seemed to be slipping away from BCC A until a flurry of wickets in the middle overs – with Kashif Khan (2/16) and Fahad Sadeq (2/25) applying the brakes – brought them back into the contest.
The game swung like a pendulum in the death overs, with National Guards needing runs off the final deliveries.
With tension at its peak, the final over arrived with everything on the line.
In a dramatic finish, National Guards’ last wicket fell on the final ball of the match, ensuring the scores were level and the contest ended in a tie.
It was a classic encounter that had everything – early collapses, magnificent centuries of hitting, bowling fightbacks, and a finish that left both teams with a share of the spoils.
The result underscores the competitive spirit and high quality of cricket in the KHK League, leaving fans eagerly awaiting the next chapter.
