TENNIS – Jeffrey Hsu from Chinese Taipei and Karlis Ozolins from Latvia were last night crowned men’s doubles champions in the second Bahrain Men’s ITF World Tennis Tour M25 Manama tournament, currently being played at the Public Security Officers Club in Gudaibiya.
Hsu and Ozolins clinched their title after battling back from a set down to defeat the fourth-seeded pairing of Jelle Sels from the Netherlands and Giles Hussey from Britain 2-6, 6-4, 10-5.
Following the match, they were presented their awards by Bahrain Tennis Federation (BTF) president Shaikh Abdulaziz bin Mubarak Al Khalifa and BTF vice-president Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, in the presence of other officials.
Meanwhile, fourth seed Sergey Fomin from Uzbekistan and fifth seed Olaf Pieczkowski from Poland set up an exciting clash for the men’s singles title.
Fomin advanced to the championship match after taking down Maximillian Homberg from Germany 6-4, 6-1 in their semi-final yesterday, while Pieczkowski marched through with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph against Ivan Marrero Curbelo from Spain.
The final is set to be played today at the Public Security Officers Club, scheduled for a 3pm start.
