Thousands of supporters flocked to Water Garden City in Seef for Shifa Al Jazeera’s ‘Walk with Shifa’ initiative, backed by the Capital Governorate, in a major push to raise diabetes awareness and proactive wellness.
Attendees of the 2km walk included Shifa Al Jazeera Medical Group leadership, government officials and media representatives.
Guests were offered complimentary services on arrival, including free diabetes checkups, access to a dedicated weight management clinic and the ‘Ask Shifa’ inquiry counter. Pharmaceutical counters also provided complimentary products, lab test vouchers and additional discount coupons, extending the health benefits beyond the event itself.
The programme venue was set in motion with an aerobic dance for children and a plank challenge for adults.
The event’s energy then peaked with a spirited Zumba Aerobics Warm-up, preparing participants for the centrepiece of the event, the 2km walkathon.
The official ‘flag off’ marked the beginning of the mass public demonstration of commitment to physical activity.
Following the successful walkathon, a dance performance was witnessed on stage by the Shifa staff, before the focus shifted to expert education. A health talk on the complexities of diabetes, followed by an interactive session, provided practical guidance on understanding and preventing the condition through healthy living and diet.
The commitment to high engagement continued into the night with a series of active challenges, ensuring participants maintained momentum and enjoyment. These included a battery of fitness tests such as push-ups, pull-ups and sit-ups, alongside a popular football shootout and a variety of fun fitness challenges tailored specifically for children.
The event culminated with the highly anticipated prize distributions for the winners of the various events, celebrating achievement and reinforcing the positive impact of community-focused wellness.
Winners of the top fitness challenges were recognised across the podium. First prize winners received bicycles with second and third place participants taking home health-focused goodies, including sugar monitoring devices and smart watches.
