A sedan crashed through the glass window of the municipal swimming pool in the southern French town of La Ciotat, on Thursday evening, landing in the main basin where several swimmers were present, local authorities said.
A woman and child were rescued from the car by lifeguards and no swimmers were injured.
The incident occurred around 8:50 p.m. when the vehicle broke through the parking lot fence and shattered the building's glass wall before plunging into the pool. No swimmers were directly impacted by the vehicle.
Onboard the submerged car were a 38-year-old woman and her five-year-old daughter, both of whom were rescued by two lifeguards and a bystander.
They emerged unscathed but were transported to a local hospital. One man at the scene reportedly sustained minor injuries from broken glass.
Officials have secured the site, with city services planning the vehicle's removal. Damage to the facility has forced the closure of the pool for several weeks.
A psychological support unit has been established for employees, including the lifeguards involved in the rescue.
