TENNIS – Bahraini player Ahmed Al Sayed advanced to the second round of the Arab Under-16 Tennis Championship after defeating Tunisia’s Ali Ben Mahmoud 7–6 (6), 6–4 in the opening singles round, held at the Bahrain Tennis Federation courts.
Bahrain’s Ali Al Khayat progressed after his Palestinian opponent Alexandros Tarazi withdrew due to injury, while Redha Abdulnabi lost to Tunisia’s Laith Ben Achour 6–0, 6–1.
Other singles results saw Syria’s Mohammed Salim beat Yemen’s Mohammed Adel 6–3, 6–2; Jordan’s Talal Shatara defeat Palestine’s Rayyan Al Shawa 6–2, 7–6 (4); Egypt’s Youssef Morid overcome Bahrain’s Ali Al Khayat 6–1, 6–0; Lebanon’s Rami Saouli beat Syria’s Mohammed Salim 6–4, 6–2; and Jordan’s Amir Jaber defeat Iraq’s Mazen Haman 6–1, 6–0.
In doubles, Yemen’s Mohammed Adel and Fares Al Wazir defeated Bahrain’s Abdulrahman Al Doseri and Ali Al Khayat 6–4, 7–4; Iraq’s Mazen Haman and Faisal Khalid defeated Palestine’s Rayyan Al Shawa and Alexandros Tarazi 6–3, 6–2; and Algeria’s Mohammed Obaidat and Wacil Madani defeated Bahrain’s Redha Abdulnabi and Talal Al Sayed 6–3, 6–4.
