Schools across the UAE have banned students from bringing medicines to class, except in strictly regulated medical cases.
Private and government schools, following a directive from the Ministry of Education, stated that the move is intended to protect students and reduce risks associated with the unsupervised use of medication on school premises.
In notices circulated to parents, schools warned that allowing children to carry medication could lead to unintended consequences, including incorrect dosages, adverse reactions, or improper use.
However, the ban is not absolute. School administrations stressed that students with chronic conditions or specific medical needs will be exempt. The parents of such students must submit an official medical prescription detailing the student's name, the prescribed medication, dosage, and timing of administration. In these cases, the medication will be stored and administered by qualified health staff.
