The owner of a training institute has been arrested for allegedly offering educational services without a licence.
According to the Public Prosecution, the Education Ministry received a report concerning forged certificates issued to several pupils at the institute.
The facility, which has since been shut down, was allegedly operating without the required government permit.
An inspection conducted by the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security, in co-ordination with the Industry and Commerce Ministry, uncovered electronic devices, billboards advertising overseas-accredited professional certificates, documents and receipts – all of which were confiscated as evidence.
Witnesses are still being interviewed by the Public Prosecution as the investigation continues ahead of a potential referral to criminal trial.
Additionally, the prosecution has lifted the confidentiality of the institute’s bank accounts to determine the amount of revenue generated from the allegedly invalid certificates.
