The victims of a tragic accident that resulted in the death of a family of three were buried yesterday in Barbar.
Ahmed Al Shuwaikh, 31, his wife Hawra Maki, 29, and their eight-year-old daughter Reem were enjoying a peaceful outing in the desert before the accident in Sakhir, which also left several others injured.
Hundreds of mourners attended the burial and funeral processions to bid their farewells to the family.
Condolences from men and women will both be received at the Ma’atam Al Shuwaikh (Matam Barbar) until Tuesday from 9am to 11.15am, then 3.30pm to 5pm, and then 7pm until 9pm.
MP Dr Mahdi Al Shuwaikh, a relative of the deceased family, paid tribute to them.
“Ahmed was a very kind and very well-loved man,” Dr Al Shuwaikh told the GDN.
“It really is a tragedy because they were very young, especially Reem, who was a very sweet girl.
“They always went through life smiling, and you would never hear a bad thing about any of them.
“To just suddenly lose them and have their candles put out so suddenly like this is incredibly sad and they will all be missed dearly.”
Al Rawabi School, which Reem attended, posted a tribute on social media saying, “Farewell Reem. The school mourns the flower who passed away in the Sakhir accident. May God grant her family and classmates patience and solace.”
