Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, in the presence of Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani, Industry and Commerce Minister and Honorary Mission head Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro, inaugurated the new Cypriot Embassy in Manama.
Cypriot Ambassador Dr Andreas Eliades highlighted the commitment of the leadership of both countries to strengthening bilateral relations and welcomed the agreements signed during the visit, in presence of His Majesty King Hamad and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The visit marks a new phase in the strategic partnership between the two nations across several sectors, including defence and security, culture, higher education, trade and investment, tourism, and maritime security.
The opening ceremony was attended by Jordanian Ambassador and Diplomatic Corps Dean Ambassador Rami Al Adwan; several ambassadors accredited to Bahrain; Bahraini Ambassador to Cyprus residing in Tel Aviv Khalid Al Jalahma; and several officials from the Foreign Ministry.
President Christodoulides also visited the Bahrain Chamber, where he was received by its chairman Sameer Nass, members and officials.
A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Bahrain Chamber and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), aiming to strengthen economic partnerships, promote investment, exchange expertise and provide a joint framework to encourage trade activity, sustainable investments and economic growth.
The Cypriot President commended the Bahrain Chamber’s regional and international role in promoting Bahrain as an attractive business and investment hub and emphasised the strategic advantages, supportive legal framework, and safe business environment that enhance investor confidence.
He also visited Bahrain National Museum and Bahrain Economic Development Board.
On his tour to the National Museum, President Christodoulides explored the museum’s galleries and exhibitions and viewed displays reflecting Bahrain’s commitment to preserving its heritage.
He praised the museum’s outstanding organisation and rich content, noting that it reflects the depth and richness of Bahrain’s history.
Dr Al Zayani described the visit as a key milestone in the long-standing co-operation and close strategic partnership between the two countries, underpinned by trust, understanding, mutual respect and shared human values.
He noted that with Bahrain and Cyprus assuming the presidencies of the GCC and the European Union Council, respectively, the coming period represents an important opportunity to strengthen relations between the two regions, particularly in advancing negotiations toward a free trade agreement between the GCC and the European Union.
Additionally, the Bahrain-Cyprus Business Forum was held to showcase high-value investment opportunities and support economic growth and shared development goals.
President Christodoulides highlighted Cyprus as a stable European investment platform providing full access to the EU single market and the eurozone.
Later, the Cypriot President and his accompanying delegation departed Bahrain, marking the conclusion of their official visit.
He was bid farewell by Dr Al Zayani; Mr Fakhro; Muharraq Governor Salman Bin Hindi Al Mannai; Dr Eliades; Mr Al Jalahma; alongside a number of senior officials.
