An Indian woman has been arrested for allegedly spiking her husband's biryani with sleeping pills and then smothering him in the country's southern state of Andhra Pradesh.
Lokam Sivanagaraju and his wife, Lokam Lakshmi Madhuri, were reportedly experiencing significant marital strife after the former confronted the latter over an illicit affair.
On the night of 18 January, the wife allegedly mixed approximately 20 sleeping pills into a biryani she had prepared for her husband.
The drug-laced meal caused the victim to fall into a deep sleep. An initial investigation revealed that the woman and the man with whom she was having an affair allegedly struck the unconscious man with a wooden rolling pin before smothering him to death.
A post-mortem examination confirmed internal injuries and signs of a violent assault. Police have arrested the woman, her partner, and a friend who reportedly procured the sedatives for the scheme. All three suspects have reportedly confessed to their roles in the murder during interrogation.
