VOLLEYBALL – THE Bahrain Volleyball Association (BVA) announced last night that it will be taking disciplinary and legal action against those responsible in an unfortunate event that took place on Friday night in a senior men’s volleyball match between Muharraq and Dar Kulaib in the 2025-26 Isa bin Rashid Bahrain Volleyball League.
During the contest, Muharraq player and national team star Naser Anan had a physical altercation with the second referee. Anan also hit an official when he was being restrained by teammates and players from Dar Kulaib.
In a statement issued in Arabic, the BVA expressed its “deep regret and condemnation” of the incident, and that it “affirms its complete rejection of such unsportsmanlike conduct, which contradicts the noble principles of sports and its message of fair competition and mutual respect among all parties.”
The BVA emphasises that it will take all necessary measures to prevent such incidents happening in the future, and that a thorough review of all reports related to the match will be conducted, in order to take disciplinary and legal action.
The statement added: “The BVA urges all clubs, players, and technical and administrative staff, as well as fans, to adhere to the spirit of sportsmanship and co-operate to preserve the image of Bahraini volleyball.”
Meanwhile, Muharraq Club issued a statement earlier yesterday strongly condemning the unfortunate events.
Muharraq emphasised its “categorical rejection of any actions or practices that have no relation to the spirit of sportsmanship.”
The statement continued: “The club stresses the need to reject such actions in Bahraini stadiums and the necessity of maintaining a positive competitive atmosphere that reflects the values of respect and discipline, as these actions do not represent Muharraq Club and its long history.
“Muharraq Club also affirms its full confidence in the BVA, headed by Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa and the members of the board of directors, to take the necessary measures in accordance with the approved regulations and bylaws to ensure that what happened is not repeated and to preserve the rights of all parties.”
