An American man has been arrested in Batangas, the Philippines, for allegedly imprisoning several Filipina women and forcing them to livestream for money.
The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP ACG) apprehended the 27-year-old after one of the captive women managed to escape from his residence and alerted the authorities.
Revealing the suspect's modus operandi, ACG Director Brig. Gen. Wilson Asueta said: "They start on dating apps; then, if he gets the woman’s trust, he invites her to meet up and gives her an offer to work as a ‘model’."
The women were then allegedly held against their will. According to reports, the victims were coerced into performing sexual acts on livestreaming platforms for financial gain.
The rescued women have been turned over to the local social welfare office for care and assistance. The American is currently being detained while awaiting charges for violations of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act and the Cybercrime Prevention Act.
