A massive fire engulfed an islet, Lamion, in the municipality of Bongao, in the southern Philippines, at around 10pm on Tuesday. The blaze rapidly spread through the coastal area due to strong winds, forcing a densely packed community of more than 5,000 people to be evacuated by land and sea.
Firefighters were able to bring the flames under control after several hours. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the blaze, as well as the total extent of the property damage.
Videos of the incident have since gone viral online.
