Bahrain struck gold yesterday in the 10-metre air pistol teams’ competition at the eighth Arab Women Sports Tournament, currently being held in Sharjah, the UAE.
Mooza Abdulrahim Ali, Badreya Ebrahim Alatawi, and Qamar Ali, representing the kingdom’s Riffa Club, secured their event’s title, while Qamar also won the bronze medal in the 10m air pistol individual contest.
The Bahrainis took the team’s gold with a combined score of 1,662.30 points. The UAE placed second with 1,637.25 points, followed by Kuwait in third with 1,635.20 points.
In the individual category, Qamar won bronze with 207.5 points. Kuwait’s Ghezlan Hasan bagged gold after a closely contested final against Qatar’s Salma Almass, with the duel decided on the final shot.
The Kuwaiti shooter finished with a total score of 231.1 points, while Almass claimed silver with 228.3 points.
The shooters’ teams’ medal was the first gold for Bahrain in Sharjah, where yesterday’s two-medal haul brought the national delegation’s tally so far to four in the multi-sport event.
The kingdom’s fencers, representing Busaiteen Club, earlier took a silver medal in the teams’ epee competition, while Ritej Haithem Araoud won bronze in individual foil.
Bahrain’s shooters will also be competing in the 10m rifle competition tomorrow, with Noof Khalil Aldoseri, Marwa Hamid Alamairi, Hanan Khaled Rahma, Safa Mohamed Aldoseri, and Fawzia Mohamed all set to take aim for gold.
Aside from shooting and fencing, Bahrain are also competing in Sharjah in archery with Riffa, in basketball with Al Hala, and in taekwondo with Budaiya.
They are amongst 63 clubs representing 16 countries across nine sports in this year’s Arab Women Sports Tournament.
