A court in Ajman, UAE, has convicted a 48-year-old Khaleeji woman of defaming a former friend and threatening her marital life.
The woman was fined AED 30,000 (approximately BD 3,000) for defamation after publishing several libellous and accusatory posts on Snapchat following a personal dispute with the victim.
In several Snapchat stories, the defendant alleged that her friend had been unfaithful to her husband with multiple men, claiming she possessed evidence to prove it. However, upon questioning following a complaint by the victim, she was unable to produce any such evidence.
The complainant's husband testified that he had been threatened by a third party to refrain from pursuing legal action, or he would be "exposed".
The victim has also filed a civil claim seeking compensation for moral and psychological damage.
