A Syrian first-division football match ended in chaos after fans of the losing side invaded the pitch and assaulted the referee.
The match between Homs Al Fida SC and Omaya SC ended in a 2-1 victory for the former, with the winning goal scored in the final moments of the game. Incensed by the loss, Omaya SC fans stormed the pitch to attack the official.
Security forces intervened and the referee was quickly escorted to safety. Several gunshots were fired into the air to disperse the crowd.
Already struggling this season, Omaya SC currently languishes at the bottom of the league with only three points. The club now faces a points deduction following the incident.
