CRICKET – ABRAJ Rocking Royals clinched the title in the sixth season of the Abraj Premier League (APL6) following a convincing 37-run victory over Abraj Super Kings in the final.
After winning the toss, Rocking Royals elected to bat first and posted a modest yet competitive total of 116/8 in their allotted 20 overs.
The innings began on a shaky note with early wickets falling quickly, but the middle order steadied the ship with crucial contributions.
Rakesh Kumar anchored the batting with an unbeaten 20 off 18 balls, while Vinit Maroo added 14. Anil Verma and Gaurav Sharma chipped in with valuable knocks of 11 each, helping the team push past the 100-run mark. Extras also played an important role.
For the Super Kings, Ajay Jain stood out with an excellent spell of 3/9, well supported by skipper Sushant Khar, who picked up 2/25.
In reply, the Super Kings struggled against disciplined and accurate bowling, losing wickets at regular intervals and never gaining momentum.
Lauv Lahoti and Varun Sood provided brief starts, while Sushant Khar fought hard with 11 off 16 balls. Varun and Ankesh Mandowara added 10 runs each, but the lack of partnerships hurt the chase.
Rocking Royals’ bowlers dominated, with Kumar returning 2/7 and Vignesh Us claiming 2/11. Ashwani Pratap, Suresh Lakku, captain Sagar Dholaria, and Verma chipped in with one wicket apiece.
Sharp fielding and key run-outs sealed the contest as Super Kings were bowled out for 79 in 16.2 overs.
Overall, a balanced team performance with both bat and ball secured a well-deserved championship win for Rocking Royals.
Maroo’s all-round brilliance earned him the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Final award.
Amongst the APL6’s season’s award winners, Ashwani was named the MVP, Khar claimed the Most Wickets award, Tarun Parihar claimed the Most Runs honour, and Vinay Gupta came away with the Most Dismissals award.
