Armed robbers attacked an armoured truck on an Italian highway, with dramatic footage capturing masked men in a shootout with police and an explosion, in a scene that looked straight out of a Hollywood heist movie.
A gang attempted to ambush an armoured cash-in-transit truck on SS 613 highway in Italy's Puglia region on Monday morning.
According to local media reports, the masked gunmen forced the truck to halt by blocking the road and setting a vehicle on fire.

Dramatic footage shows the gunmen in white overalls and ski masks exiting vehicles disguised as police vehicles.
The assailants moved in and were seen detonating a device on the cash van and triggering a massive explosion.
However, a foam-based security mechanism was reportedly triggered inside the van due to the blast, preventing the suspects from getting hold of any cash.
Police quickly arrived at the scene but were met with gunfire and forced to use vehicles for cover.
No injuries or fatalities were reported among police, guards or civilians.
Several suspects reportedly managed to flee the scene by stealing cars from passing motorists to break through police roadblocks.
Police later intercepted an Alfa Romeo vehicle travelling at high speed, before arresting two men who tried to escape on foot.
Authorities confirmed that two suspects are now in custody, while at least two others remain at large.
A major manhunt is now underway to locate other suspects using helicopter surveillance, heightened police presence and checkpoints across the region.
