A court in Kuwait has sentenced a woman to four years in prison with hard labour and fined her KD 1.15 million (BD 1.4 million) for defrauding students on the pretext of providing apartments in the United Kingdom.
The woman targeted parents and students planning to study abroad, promising accommodation near British universities to collect substantial sums for reservations. To their horror, the unsuspecting victims later discovered that they had been conned.
The woman was assisted by an accomplice, identified as an Egyptian national, who fled the country while the woman was referred to trial.
