An airline in Somalia has praised one of its pilots after he successfully landed a passenger aircraft on the shoreline near Mogadishu's international airport following a technical fault, saving the lives of all 55 on board.
The flight crew reported a problem shortly after take-off from Aden Adde International Airport on Tuesday morning and requested an emergency return, according to Somalia's Civil Aviation Authority. The aircraft reportedly touched down but failed to stop on the runway, overshooting the tarmac before coming to rest in shallow water.
