Ahead of the Valentine's Day weekend, a photographer has captured the famous Northern Lights in the unmistakable shape of a heart.
Photographer Kristoffer Vangen captured the atmospheric phenomenon over the skies of Norway. The Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, are formed when solar wind-charged particles collide with the Earth's magnetic field and atmospheric gases.
Vangen explained that he had hoped to capture the lights in a distinct shape for a long time but had not been lucky enough to do so until now.
"I always wanted to capture the Northern Lights shaped as something. I imagined a bird, a tornado, or a skull or something like this," said Vangen. He added: "It's been close a few times, but I never felt the shape was clear enough; it just looked messy. Last Friday, I finally got something! Perhaps a heart is a bit cliché, but I'm not complaining."
