A Ramadan food drive to collect non-perishable items to help those in need during the holy month was launched yesterday.
Organised by the community group A Box of Goodness, the initiative will run until March 15.
Donations of dry, non-perishable food items are welcome, including essentials such as rice, dates, flour, green gram, chickpeas, oil, hareesh, sago, spices, pasta, noodles, sugar, tea, milk powder, coffee, ghee, coconut milk powder, vermicelli and canned goods.
The unregistered group is aiming to distribute packages containing these items to individuals in need.
Donation drop-off locations have been set up across the island to ensure easy access for contributors. These include St Christopher’s School Bahrain in Saar, Nadeen School in Dilmunia, Bahrain Rugby Football Club in Janabiya, Level Up Education and British Preparatory School in El Markh and JM Willis Cakes and Baked Goodies in Manama.
In addition, a Ramadan shoe drive is taking place, inviting individuals to donate new or lightly worn shoes of any size or colour.
As a gesture of appreciation, donors will receive 50 per cent off their coffee order at Pure Kicks Café. All collected footwear will be distributed to migrant workers as part of the group’s seasonal outreach efforts.
