Bahrain has launched a two-year National Aviation Strategy aimed at nearly doubling its air connectivity and cementing its status as a regional logistics hub, Transportation and Telecommunications Minister Dr Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa said.
The 2026–2027 strategy seeks to expand Bahrain’s air destination network to 100 locations by 2030, up from the current 66, as part of a broader push to increase the aviation sector’s contribution to the national economy.
Dr Shaikh Abdulla said the plan focuses on transforming Bahrain International Airport into a centre for commercial aviation, logistics, and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services.
“The strategy reflects Bahrain’s commitment to strengthening its position as a leading regional and global aviation hub,” the minister said during a launch event at the Awal Private Terminal.
The initiative rests on three pillars: regulatory governance, the enhancement of operational services, and investment in infrastructure and sustainable national talent.
To support these goals, the ministry signed letters of intent (LoI) with premium leisure carrier BeOnd and the Riyadh-based Helicopter Company (THC) to bolster air connectivity.
Civil Aviation Affairs under-secretary Husain Al Shuail noted that the two-year roadmap includes specific performance indicators to monitor the implementation of various projects.
The plan aligns with the Economic Vision 2030, a long-term government project designed to diversify the kingdom’s economy away from oil and create high-quality employment for citizens.
