GOLF – BALBIR Singh won the 57th Abdulla Ali Kanoo Cup with a standout performance at Awali Golf Club.
Singh was a previous winner of the competition and has special motivation to bring out his best game whenever the event is held.
Playing off a 12 handicap, Singh got into his groove with a series of pars and bogeys, resulting in a front nine of only three-over before finishing with a gross 77, making for a net 65.
His consistency helped him secure the win by one shot over Susan Scott, who carded a great round of 66 net.
The medal for the best gross was highly contested, with Nasser Yaqoob Saleh emerging triumphant.
A string of three birdies on the front put him one-under the course, and a flawless back nine with nine pars in a row meant a round of 69, winning him the medal.
Saleh overcame a tough challenge from Lee McIlear, who played an eagle on the last hole to shoot 70 gross.
Following play, the prizes were handed out by tournament director Rashed Al Qutami and Awali Golf Club captain Steve Newall in the presence of Kanoo Group director Ahmed Kanoo.
