Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak received ambassadors of Arab countries accredited to Bahrain.
Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (Baca) president Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa attended the meeting.
The visit was organised as part of familiarisation tours arranged by the Foreign Ministry for members of the diplomatic corps to tour the municipal exhibition and learn about the longstanding history of municipal work in Bahrain.
Mr Al Mubarak praised the close relations between Bahrain and fellow Arab states, as well as the continued co-operation and co-ordination across various domains.
He noted that ongoing development and modernisation within the municipal sector form part of the comprehensive development process under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The minister highlighted the deep-rooted history of municipal work in Bahrain, extending for more than a century since the establishment of Manama Municipality in 1919 during the reign of the late Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa. This legacy, he noted, has positively contributed to urban development and the enhancement of public services.
He added that the inauguration of the rehabilitated Manama Municipality building originally opened in 1962 by the late Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa reflects Bahrain’s commitment to preserving this heritage.
The ambassadors toured the municipality building and reviewed its upgraded facilities, in addition to visiting the exhibition documenting the municipality’s history and institutional journey, including its development and growth over the decades.
Attendees also received a detailed briefing on the municipality’s functions and key milestones in the evolution of municipal work, with a number of topics of mutual interest discussed.
The ambassadors commended the institutional progress they witnessed, which reflects the longstanding municipal experience of Bahrain, and emphasised the importance of such meetings in strengthening joint Arab co-operation and co-ordination.
