A former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) employee from Bengaluru has confessed to killing his wife, claiming he feared no one would look after her following his death.
The 76-year-old admitted to strangling his 63-year-old wife with a towel while she was preparing lunch in the kitchen. Police reports suggest he had initially planned to die by suicide following the act but panicked and called for help instead.
According to the police, "After the woman collapsed, Rao sat near her body for 20 minutes. He then called a neighbour, asking him to come to the house immediately as he had killed his wife."
When authorities arrived, Rao cooperated with officers and confessed immediately, stating, "Yes, I killed her. I may not live for more than three or four years from now. Who would look after her after my death? We do not have close relatives in Bengaluru."
The couple’s only daughter reportedly lives in the United States.
