BASKETBALL – HOLDERS Muharraq will be going up against Sitra in the quarter-finals of the 2025-26 Khalifa Bin Salman Cup.
The prestigious annual tournament is scheduled to tip off on Saturday with the first series of games.
Muharraq and Sitra are two of eight teams entered in this year’s competition. The others are Al Ahli, Manama, Al Najma, Al Hala, Nuwairat, Al Ettihad, and Sitra.

The winners of the quarters will move on to the semi-finals, which will be played in best-of-three format.
Games in the last eight are set to be played at the Bahrain Basketball Association Arena in Um Al Hassam Sports Complex, while the final four and championship game will be held at Khalifa Sports City Arena in Isa Town.
Along with their defence of their Zain Bahrain Basketball League championship, Muharraq will be looking to add to their Bahrain Super Cup victory from earlier this season with the Khalifa Bin Salman Cup.
Muharraq clinched last season’s Khalifa Bin Salman Cup following an 89-86 win over Manama in the final. The high-profile title-decider was attended by Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) vice-president Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, and senior international basketball figures including International Basketball Federation (Fiba) president Shaikh Saud bin Ali Al Thani and Arab Basketball Confederation president Major General Ismail Al Gergawi.
Muharraq have won the coveted trophy twice since the tournament was first held.
Ahli and Manama have the most titles with three apiece, while Riffa triumphed once in the past.
