Eight individuals were identified and arrested for allegedly publishing videos and content expressing sympathy with the Iranian aggression on the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet base in Bahrain.
The Anti-Cyber Crime Directorate stated that the men, identified as Hussain Al Aswad, Ali Khamis, Sameer Aziz, Al Sayed Baqer, Ebrahim Ghfeil, Mohammed Naim, Abdulla Abbas and Eshtisham Mohamed, have been apprehended and accused of being involved in committing serious violations affecting the security and stability of society.
The individuals allegedly circulated fabricated images generated by using artificial intelligence (AI) techniques, falsely depicting damage to a number of homes, and shared them through their social media accounts.
This contributed to misleading public opinion and spreading fear among citizens and residents, which constitutes a possible legal offence that harms security and public order. Necessary legal proceedings have been taken and the accused have been referred to the Public Prosecution.
The authorities have urged the community to obtain information from official sources only and to refrain from circulating or reposting unverified content in order to avoid legal accountability.
