Tankers have been deployed to tackle rainwater accumulation across the four governorates.
Thundery showers accompanied by strong gusts began on Tuesday night and continued into the early hours of yesterday morning.
According to the Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry’s Meteorological Directorate, the highest rainfall was recorded at the King Fahad Causeway, with a precipitation rate of 23.6pc, while the lowest – 6.4pc – was registered at Durrat Al Bahrain.
The General Directorate of Traffic urged motorists to exercise caution in the rainy conditions by staying focused on the road, keeping to their lanes, adhering to speed limits, and maintaining a safe distance between vehicles. The Works Ministry yesterday confirmed that tankers were sent out to streets, roads and highways across Riffa, Isa Town, Budaiya, Zallaq, Buri and other areas.
Meanwhile, Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak affirmed that the rain emergency teams will continue to perform their duties round the clock across the governorates.
This came as he conducted a field visit in a number of areas in the Northern Governorate and the Southern Governorate. Under-Secretary for Municipal Affairs Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, councillors and other officials were present.
“This is part of a clear action plan with well‑defined priorities that enable swift emergency response and the protection of residential areas and neighbourhoods, ensuring the highest levels of public safety,” said Mr Al Mubarak.
“During the visit, we reviewed the efforts of the emergency teams and the mechanisms for dealing with accumulated rainwater.
“Ongoing pumping operations are being monitored to ensure smooth traffic flow and maintain the safety of all members of the community.
“The continued co-ordination among the relevant authorities, namely the Works Ministry, the General Directorate of Civil Defence, the General Directorate of Traffic, and the municipal councils, contribute to the enhancement of efficiency in dealing with any developments resulting from rainfall.”
Governorates and municipalities also released safety instructions for people to follow during rains.
Citizens and residents were urged to ensure that their roofs are properly insulated to prevent leaks, moisture infiltration, condensation issues and excessive noise.
They were also advised to check rainwater drainage openings to ensure they are clear and unclogged, as blockages can lead to water accumulation.
In cases of suspected electrical faults, homeowners were instructed to safeguard their electrical systems by hiring licensed contractors approved by the Electricity and Water Authority.
Contractors should also inspect the efficiency of the grounding protection system to ensure it provides a low‑resistance path for excess electrical current, enhancing overall safety, stability and protection. Finally, pedestrians were urged to avoid touching street lighting poles due to the risk of electric shock.
