The Philippines Embassy yesterday announced that it has suspended a one-time financial assistance to its nationals in Bahrain who have been affected by the ongoing US-Iran-Israel conflict.
The Embassy said the decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to avoid overcrowding.
“In light of the situation, the MWO (Migrant Workers Office) will suspend the distribution of financial assistance starting at 1pm as a precautionary measure, in view of the ongoing missile and drone attacks in the region,” the embassy in Bahrain said in a statement.
The assistance is limited to those directly affected by the crisis, including individuals with valid work visas, those experiencing flight delays or cancellations due to airspace restrictions, business disruptions, or unemployment resulting from the attacks.
Those holding visit or dependent visas, domestic workers currently employed, skilled workers, and those who have not been paid due to delayed salaries are not eligible for the scheme.
The GDN reported yesterday that the Philippines Embassy visited eight shelters and distributed more than 900 relief packages to augment the food and basic necessities provided by the government.
According to online reports, more than 1,400 Filipinos in the region, including 231 in Bahrain have requested repatriation following the attacks in the region.
