Parents have been urged to closely monitor their children’s use of smart devices and electronic applications amid current developments, in order to ensure their safety and protection from potential risks in cyberspace.
The Child Protection in Cyberspace Unit at the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security stressed the importance of educating children on several key guidelines.
These include refraining from sharing or reposting news, images or videos related to the current situation, avoiding calls for gatherings that violate the law, and refraining from photographing military movements or ongoing attacks, as such actions may have legal and security consequences.
The unit also emphasised the need to guide children not to communicate with unknown persons through social media platforms or electronic applications, and not to share personal information or their geographic location with any party.
It further urged children to refrain from writing or posting offensive or unlawful comments across electronic platforms.
Children have been advised to inform their parents immediately if they encounter any content or communication through social media that causes fear or concern, to ensure such cases are addressed promptly and appropriately.
The unit highlighted the importance of continuous parental supervision and awareness regarding the risks associated with social media applications and online platforms.
It also stressed the need to ensure that children are exposed to safe content and are guided on the appropriate steps to take when faced with any threat or risk.
The unit called on parents to contact it if they suspect any activity that may pose a risk to children’s safety, either by visiting in person, calling the direct number (33523300), emailing (cpcu@interior.gov.bh), contacting the hotline of the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security (992), or through the MyGov application.
