The Permanent Mission of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York, acting on behalf of GCC member states and in its capacity as President of the 46th GCC Ministerial Council Session, submitted a letter to United Nations Security Council (UNSC) President for March, US Permanent Representative Ambassador Mike Waltz, and to UN Secretary General António Guterres.
The letter responds to the false and misleading claims made by Iranian representative to the UN.
The communication includes detailed evidence refuting the allegations made by the Iranian representative during a Press briefing at the UN, as well as statements contained in a separate letter addressed by Iran to the Security Council.
The GCC states affirmed that Iran’s attacks targeting GCC countries using ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, drones and fighter aircraft constitute a clear violation of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.
The letter further stressed that Iran’s arbitrary invocation of UN Charter Article 51 represents an unsuccessful attempt to justify acts of aggression that violate the prohibition on the use of force against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.
It also noted that despite repeated efforts by GCC countries to avoid escalation and their explicit assurances that their territories would not be used to launch attacks against Iran, Iran has nevertheless carried out and continues to carry out military operations targeting GCC states.
Such actions constitute a violation of Article 2(4) of the UN Charter.
