Information Minister Dr Ramzan Al Nuaimi chaired an emergency meeting of the GCC information ministers remotely to discuss regional developments following the Iranian attacks on GCC states.
The meeting reviewed the consequences of the attacks, which targeted civilian sites, vital facilities, infrastructure, residential areas and private property.
The ministers noted that such actions constitute a flagrant violation of international law, international humanitarian law and the Charter of the United Nations, and pose a direct threat to regional security and stability and the safety of its peoples.
Dr Al Nuaimi said the region is facing a highly sensitive situation amid rapidly evolving developments. He strongly condemned the Iranian attacks, reaffirming that GCC states retain their legal right to respond in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, which guarantees the right of individual and collective self-defence in the event of aggression. He added that the states may take all necessary measures to safeguard their sovereignty, security and stability.
He affirmed that Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad, and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, remains committed to its longstanding approach that seeks peace.
He also emphasised the kingdom’s full solidarity with GCC countries and the measures they take to protect their sovereignty, security and stability.
Dr Al Nuaimi expressed appreciation for the efforts of the armed forces in the GCC states in defending their countries, protecting their sovereignty and confronting the attacks with determination and efficiency.
He also highlighted the important role of security agencies and relevant authorities in strengthening security and stability, ensuring the safety of citizens and residents, and protecting vital facilities and infrastructure.
The minister also commended the national role of the Bahrain Defence Force and its high level of readiness in protecting the kingdom’s security and preserving its sovereignty. He also noted the advanced capabilities demonstrated by air defence systems in intercepting and thwarting the hostile Iranian attacks.
He praised the efforts of the Interior Ministry and the National Guard in the kingdom, as well as the vigilance and preparedness shown by all government entities in addressing developments in a manner that reinforces national security and stability.
The minister also expressed sincere condolences to GCC countries over the fallen servicemen and civilian victims resulting from these attacks, wishing the injured a swift recovery.
