Foreign Minister and chair of the current session of the GCC Ministerial Council Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani chaired a joint meeting remotely between the foreign ministers of the Gulf and Egypt.
Egypt was represented by Dr Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs. GCC Secretary-General Jassem Al Budaiwi also attended.
The officials reviewed the course of the longstanding and close relations between the GCC member states and Egypt, as well as ways to further develop them across various fields.
They also discussed current regional developments, including the blatant Iranian missile and drone attacks against GCC member states that targeted infrastructure, civilian facilities, and residential areas, resulting in the death of a number of citizens and residents, injuries to others, and significant damage to property and civilian assets.
Both sides commended the United Nations Security Council’s resolution, which strongly condemned the attacks launched by Iran against the GCC states and Jordan, describing them as a violation of international law and a serious threat to international peace and security. The resolution also condemned the Iranian attacks on residential areas and civilian objects, and the resulting civilian casualties and damage to civilian buildings.
Both sides affirmed the importance of continuing joint diplomatic co-ordination and co-operation to mobilise international efforts to implement the resolution in order to halt the Iranian attacks against GCC and Arab countries. They also underscored the need to work together to address all challenges, safeguard Arab national security, and support efforts aimed at protecting the freedom of international navigation in the Arabian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz to ensure energy security and food supply chains.
Dr Al Zayani chaired separate meetings between GCC foreign ministers and Jordan as well as Morocco.
