HANDBALL – DEFENDING champions Al Najma eked out a hard-earned 31-30 victory against a battling Barbar last night in their matchweek 15 contest of the 2025-26 Khalid Bin Hamad Bahrain Handball League.
Veteran Mohammed Abdulredha scored from the nine-metre line with just under a minute remaining to separate the two sides in the game, which was played at the Bahrain Handball Federation Arena in Um Al Hassam Sports Complex without any fans in attendance.
Najma held a slim 15-14 edge at the break and did enough to come away with the tight outcome, which maintained their unbeaten record after 14 matches. They continued to sit atop the table as they improved to 42 points – four ahead of their closest challengers Al Shabab.
Najma dealt Barbar their sixth loss to go with eight wins as they went to 30 points in fourth place on the standings.
Meanwhile, also in round 15, Al Ahli battled past Tubli 31-27 at the same venue.
Ahli led 15-13 at the half and did well to maintain their slim advantage over the remainder of the night.
Ahli improved to 35 points with their 11th win in 13 outings to stay third on the table. They dealt Tubli their seventh defeat as they went to 24 points.
Matchweek 15 concludes tonight with Al Ettifaq taking on Samaheej at 9pm at the same venue.
