BAHRAIN and India yesterday stressed the importance of halting Iranian threats to freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, which is a vital international corridor for energy supplies and global trade.
They underlined that protecting maritime routes is a shared global responsibility to safeguard navigation and the interests of the international community.
The two nations also reviewed the close relations between them when His Majesty King Hamad received a telephone call from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
His Majesty and Prime Minister Modi discussed means to further advance co-operation across different sectors.
Mr Modi extended Eid Al Fitr greetings to His Majesty, wishing continued progress and prosperity for Bahrain and its people.
He also condemned the Iranian attacks on Bahrain, emphasising India’s full support for the kingdom’s security and stability and its rejection of actions that threaten regional peace and security.
India would contribute to ensuring the safety of maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, Mr Modi said.
His Majesty said that Bahrain would also contribute to international efforts to secure navigation in the Strait, supporting maritime security and ensuring the uninterrupted flow of global trade.
Mr Modi expressed appreciation for the care provided to the Indian community in Bahrain and for the facilitation of the return of stranded nationals. The King said that the Indian community in Bahrain represents a distinguished example of dedication and commitment in work, commending its notable contributions to the development process.
