CYCLING – TEAM Bahrain Victorious rider Edoardo Zambanini claimed an impressive top 10 finish in the 117th edition of the Milano-Sanremo race yesterday in Italy.
The one-day event, a Spring Classic and the first Monument of the international cycling season, featured a course covering 298km that headed towards the coast.
A Monument is one of five classic races generally considered to be the oldest, hardest, longest, and most prestigious one-day events in men’s road cycling.
Zambanini was classified 10th overall after finishing as part of the trailing group that was four seconds adrift from winner Tadej Pogacar of UAE Team Emirates-XRG and runner-up Thomas Pidcock of Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team. Wout Van Aert joined them on the podium in third for Team Visma-Lease a Bike.
Also keeping pace with Zambanini was teammate Matej Mohoric, who was the winner of the event in 2022. Mohoric was 15th this time around as Bahrain Victorious’s second-best finisher.
Amongst the rest of the squad, Alessandro Borgo came 75th, Roman Ermakov was 84th, Paul Miquel finished 89th, Damiano Caruso was 104th, and Fran Miholjevic finished 112th.
The other Monuments of the 2026 international cycling season are the Tour of Flanders in Belgium on April 5, Paris-Roubaix in France on April 12, Liege-Bastogne-Liege in Belgium on April 26, and Il Lombardia in Italy on October 10.
Meanwhile, Bahrain Victorious are back in action today in the 15th Grote Prijs Jean-Pierre Monsere in Belgium. The one-day event covers a distance of 202km.
A six-member squad is set to compete in the event, including Thomas Capra, Zak Erzen, Daniel Skerl, Oliver Stockwell, Mihajlo Stolic, and Alberto Bruttomesso.
