The introduction of the ‘One‑Stop Travel’ system between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates is a welcome and progressive step towards faster and more efficient air travel.
This initiative allows key travel procedures – such as immigration, customs, and security checks – to be completed at the departure airport itself, eliminating the need to repeat the same formalities upon arrival.
This system has been widely appreciated for reducing waiting times and easing passenger movement between airports. Expanding the facility further to include investor visa holders and GCC resident visa holders would be a timely and practical enhancement, especially considering the current air travel volume across the region. Completing all entry and exit formalities at a single point significantly reduces congestion, effort, and stress, offering travellers a far more comfortable journey.
Given the present airspace connectivity within the GCC, extending ‘One‑Stop Travel’ benefits to all GCC residents would provide relief from long queues and repetitive inspections at destination airports. It would also streamline airport operations and enhance overall travel efficiency.
Already, Bahraini travellers can experience a smoother and more relaxed journey when departing from Bahrain International Airport to Dubai, as entry procedures are completed in advance without the need for repetition upon arrival. This model demonstrates the effectiveness of integrated travel systems.
Looking ahead, it is hoped that other GCC airports will adopt similar arrangements. In the near future, passengers could complete all travel formalities at the departure point and proceed directly onward upon arrival – much like a domestic journey.
Implementing this approach in stages, with priority initially given to investor visa holders and GCC residents, would further strengthen regional mobility and reflect the GCC’s shared vision of seamless travel integration.
