TWO Bahraini fighters punched their tickets into the gold medal bouts of their respective categories in men’s boxing yesterday at the fourth GCC Games in Doha, Qatar.
Bahrain’s Omar Budhahei and Aly Abdalla will both battle for the title after claiming impressive wins yesterday in their contests.
Budhahei qualified for the men’s 60kg final after defeating Mohamed Ahmed Aljneibi from the UAE 4-1. He will next take on Ziad Majrashi of Saudi for gold. Majrashi beat Qatar’s Youssef Elsayed 5-0 in their head-to-head.
Meanwhile, Abdalla advanced to the men’s 75kg final after powering past Abdulla Saif Alshehhi of the UAE 5-0. He will now face Mohammed Dbichi of Qatar in their title contest, with Dbichi overcoming Abdullah Darkazanli of Saudi 4-1.
Both finals are scheduled to take place today, with Budhahei’s match slated for a 5.15pm start followed by Abdalla’s decider at 5.45pm. Both times are Bahrain.
The kingdom’s boxing national team had a third fighter entered to compete yesterday in the men’s 80kg class, but
Rasheed Mehrinfar had a walkover against Abdelrahman Sadek of Saudi in their semi-final bout.
Bahrain’s boxers were joined in their contests yesterday by national team head coach John Conlan from Ireland and assistant coach Mohammed Naseem.
Meanwhile, in taekwondo yesterday, Bahrain’s Abdulla Aldoseri lost against Shabib Al Wahaibi of Oman in the men’s under-68kg weight class, ending his campaign in Doha and that of Bahrain’s jins.
