The compassion and dedication of 70 nurses who have each served more than 25 years in Bahrain were recognised at a glittering event organised by the Indian Ladies Association (ILA).
Nightingales of Bahrain – Service Award 2026 was recently held at King Hamad American Mission Hospital in A’Ali, as part of the women’s group’s platinum jubilee celebrations.
The ceremony honoured the often-unsung contributions of nurses to the kingdom’s healthcare sector and was attended by healthcare leaders, community representatives, members of the medical fraternity, media and other guests.
Bahrain Nursing and Midwifery Society president Seham Bubshait attended as chief guest and shared her inspiring journey, while Bahrain Medical Society president Dr Amer Al Durazi was present as guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, ILA president Smitha Jensen said that while Florence Nightingale’s lamp once illuminated the path of compassionate care, that same light continues to shine today through the nurses being honoured for their selfless service and commitment to humanity.
Prior to the programme, an open call for nominations was issued to nurses across Bahrain. Honourees were selected based on a minimum of 25 years of service in the kingdom’s healthcare sector, with applications considered on a first-come, first-served basis upon meeting the required criteria.
