Police in Sharjah managed to save a woman from a dangerous situation after she dialled 999 pretending to be ordering a pizza.
The incident unfolded when a woman in distress called emergency services and started talking to the dispatcher, insisting on ordering pizza. She was initially informed that she had reached out to emergency services but maintained the act of ordering pizza when the on-duty officer noticed her tone and quickly realised that this was a plea for help.
The officer then started to talk as if handling a normal order, but with coded questions in order to assess the situation. The woman was asked how many pizzas were needed. She replied "one", and then, when asked about drinks, she responded "two". This gave the officer a gauge on the number of people present.
Her location was then determined after the officer initiated tracing procedures while keeping her engaged before dispatching units to the scene.
When police arrived at her location, they found the woman being threatened by her husband, who was reportedly in an "abnormal state". Officers quickly ensured the woman's safety and secured the scene.
