A 21-year-old Brazilian woman died on Saturday after she was dropped from a 130-foot bridge during a bungee-jumping event without a safety rope attached.
According to videos that have surfaced online, Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas was carried onto the bungee platform on the "Skeleton Bridge" in Limeira by two men, then launched from the edge even as bystanders yelled that she did not have a rope tied to her. Medics pronounced her dead at the scene.
Local reports state that witnesses told Military Police the workers manning the event apparently forgot to tie her to a safety cord before pushing her over. Six people connected to the event have been taken into custody, and the Civil Police department is investigating the incident to decide whether the arrested suspects will be charged.
