The summer work ban will come into effect, starting tomorrow, to ensure safe conditions for outdoor workers, and is set to run until the end of August.
In a statement issued yesterday, the Labour Ministry announced that the annual midday work ban will prohibit outdoor labour under direct sunlight from noon to 4pm from June 15 to August 31.
“As of tomorrow, Monday, June 15, 2026, Resolution No 5 of 2026 will be implemented, enforcing the prohibition of work at noon during the summer period, which will last until August 31, 2026,” the ministry added in its statement.
“The resolution prohibits workers from working outdoors under the sun from noon to 4pm.”
The ban will protect workers from heat stress, sunstroke and the risk of related diseases, while also reducing workplace accidents during the hottest and most humid time of the year.
The ministry will also be holding a number of educational workshops in private sector facilities and distributing awareness materials regarding necessary measures to prevent the complications of heat stress and the risk of exposure.
The ministry has also created a hotline – 17873921 – for community members to report any concerns or violations.
The hotline is available by phone everyday between 7am and 4pm, and by messaging through WhatsApp on the same number.
Those who violate the rule can be fined between BD500 and BD1,000, along with a prison sentence of up to three months.
The GDN reported recently that legal experts and labour union representatives are calling for a review of the scope of Bahrain’s annual midday work ban to include workers who remain highly exposed to extreme temperatures, particularly motorcycle delivery riders and workers at service stations.
During the 2025 summer ban (June 15 to September 15), Bahrain recorded a 99.97 per cent compliance rate.
Out of 35,050 inspection visits by the Labour Ministry, inspectors found only 10 establishments in violation, involving a total of 18 workers.
