VOLLEYBALL – Bahrain Spikers Academy were crowned champions of the inaugural Women’s Volleyball Equality League, held at Isa bin Rashid Volleyball Arena at Isa Sports City in Riffa.
Spikers secured their title after defeating Sporsista 2-0 in the tournament final.
The competition was held in line with the directives of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority (GSA) chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa to support and empower Bahraini women and increase their participation in sport.
The title-decider was attended by Bahrain Volleyball Association (BVA) president Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Equal Opportunities and Gender Balance in Sports Committee chairperson Shaikha Dr Hessa bint Khalid Al Khalifa, and GSA CEO Dr Abdulrahman Askar.
Joining Spikers and Sporsista on the podium were University of Bahrain. They secured third place after beating Volley Vibes in their concluding classification contest.
The league was organised by the GSA in cooperation with the Equal Opportunities and Gender Balance in Sports Committee and the BVA.
It featured teams representing eight clubs, academies, educational institutions, and private groups, reflecting the growing interest in women’s sport in Bahrain while aiming to further develop competitive opportunities for women.
Also during the awarding ceremony, a pair of special awards were handed out.
Al Rawabi Private School took home the Most Promising Team accolade while Almaha Academy received the Fair Play honour.
The tournament concluded in a celebratory atmosphere reflecting strong organisational and sporting success, with significant public attendance and engagement, highlighting the league’s role in supporting women’s sport and increasing Bahraini women’s participation in such competitions.
