The great-granddaughter of Sir Charles Belgrave, a former British adviser to the then ruler of Bahrain, visited the kingdom recently.
Lucie Belgrave was hosted by British Ambassador Alastair Long at his residence to mark 100 years since Sir Charles first arrived in Bahrain in 1926.
She was joined by Shaikh Mohammed Al Shaikh Isaaq and Khalid Al Zayani, both of whom had known Sir Charles and were close friends of his son and Lucie’s grandfather James Hamad Belgrave.
James lived and is buried in Bahrain.
Also attending the tea gathering were Nadia Al Moussawi, MP Maryam Al Dhaen, Dr Fatima Al Dhaen, and Ebrahim Esam Ishaq.
Sir Charles Dalrymple Belgrave KBE was an adviser to the Rulers of Bahrain from 1926 until 1957, as ‘chief administrator’ or ‘adviserate’.
He was educated at Bedford School and Lincoln College, Oxford.
During the First World War, he served in the Imperial Camel Corps in Sudan, Egypt and Palestine.
During his time in Bahrain, he contributed to the establishment of several government entities.
