Countries around the world yesterday welcomed the agreement reached between the United States and Iran to end military operations between the two sides and begin detailed negotiations over a 60-day period aimed at reaching a permanent settlement.
In a statement, Saudi Arabia expressed its hope that the agreement would lead to lasting peace that strengthens regional and global security through a permanent accord that takes into account the security interests of the countries of the region and upholds the principle of respect for the internal affairs of states.
The UAE stressed the importance of full compliance with the terms of the US-Iran agreement, ensuring an immediate and comprehensive halt to hostile actions in the region, respect for state sovereignty and the principles of good neighbourliness, strict adherence to international law, and the protection of maritime routes and freedom of international navigation.
Kuwait said it hopes the agreement will represent an important step towards broader approaches to resolving pending issues through sustainable solutions that reinforce the principles of good neighbourliness, mutual respect, confidence-building, non-interference in the internal affairs of states, refraining from the use or threat of force, and ending support for proxy groups.
Qatar expressed its appreciation for the willingness of the United States and Iran to move forward in resolving their differences through negotiations and peaceful means. It also commended the partnership and efforts undertaken by Pakistan, along with regional and international parties, to reduce tensions and bridge differences.
